Singing Star

http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/Kentuckys_next_singing_sensation_140205593.html

This is a great story about a teenage girl from eastern Kentucky. She was born with a disability that left her blind, but she says she started humming to communicate before she could even talk.

Something a little different

http://singbookswithemily.wordpress.com/page/5/

How awesome these kids can sing! I thought someone might enjoy this, it shows how important it is to keep music in the schools. Such talent, how so many voices come together to produce this.

Reading Response

So I'm working on the reading response and I picked the thinking with language documents. I read the articles and now I'm ready to write about it. If we use the double entry notes format, do we just write down idea, quotes, diagrams? Or do we actually need to write out some paragraphs relating what we learned in class to this particular article? Feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

Classroom Helpers

I love pinterest and under the education boards there are several great ideas of do it yourself posters. I especially love this one. There are also some pins that are great ideas for behavior charts, creative assignments and activities that help children with the formation of sounds and words.

The Observation Assignment

I was wondering if anyone had looked ahead about the observation assignment that is coming up.  I saw in the syllabus where it talks a little about it, but wondering if I was overlooking where the breakdown of the assignment was at in blackboard.  Also when I try to open the sample document it keeps givng me an error message.  Thanks for your help!

Love this idea!

I love these posters and little poems to teach kids about long A, long E, long I, long U, and long O sounds. I'll definitely use these in my own classroom one day!!

Exam 1

Does anyone know what chapter talks about children communicating at home but having problems at school? I can't seem to find it.
Does anyone know if the reading response is due Monday?

Syntax & Semantics

Hey everyone! I'm still a little confused about syntax and semantics. Could someone give me an example of each to clarify a little more? I would greatly appreciate it!

Morpheme Mastery

So after class I was still a little confused about morphemes. I found this online and thought it was a great explanation. It has no sound, but it did help. Just thought I'd share.

Inspirational Story

The story of Patrick Henry Hughes is such an inspiration! He's from Louisville, KY.  Check it out! :)

Reading Response

Has anyone started their reading response? It's due on February 20th. The links for the scoring guides and the format guides aren't working. Can anyone else see them?

Very confused!

After the activity on 2/6, I found myself to be a little confused. Can anyone help me out here as far as what the order is for the process of speech? I'm not sure with which comes first =/

Funny video of babies "talking"

While we were watching all of the videos tonight in class I kept remembering this video and thought I would share it. I hope you all think it is as funny as I did, and kind of interesting to actually wonder if they know what they are communicating!

Twin Baby Talking

I'm in the blog!

Thanks to Ms. White, I'm in! I will be taking a computer class ASAP!

Curious?

I know I'm older than most in the class, I know I've lived in every area of the United States, I also know that any good dictionary supplies the phonetic breakdown of the words in the language. When growing up, from preschool through the fifth grade, a huge 10 to 12 inch thick dictionary was present in the classroom and required to be used by the students. We expanded our vocabulary and picked extra spelling words. The question becomes; why don't todays teachers review the successes of the past, research the methods, include them in best practice, and include them in the classroom.

had to share!

I love this! Many people only see the disability when they meet a child with special needs, but need to realize that there is so much more to the child than that.
