Out of the loop

Hey SED 260: I have missed this pass Monday due to death in my family. I missed a very important class. I see we have a test. Prayerfully all I need is to open test and nothing new was introduced on Monday. I hope everyone faired well during the horrible weather we had on 3/2/2012.

Test 2

Good evening,

I have had a fit with my scanner this week trying to scan in the language sample excerpt I passed out in class.  I do not have or can't find the electronic sample to upload.

So, I have emailed it to everyone tonight with directions for the ENTIRE test and how to complete it.

I'm also uploading it here to the blog.

BE CERTAIN to read your email and follow the directions for HOW you are to complete this portion with the answer sheet.

Also remember you MUST complete the TWO questions on Blackboard as well.

THIS IS A TWO PART TEST :)

SED Classes

This semester I am taking ASL, SED 337, and SED 260. Because all of these classes are so closely related there are people taking most, if not all, of these classes this semester. I have gotten to know a number of people through these three classes, and I'm really appreciative of that!

Tornado

Hey! I was just wondering if anyone else was affected by the recent tornado activities? I know it hit hard where I live and was very scary! Thank God it didn't hit my house, but people I know and am close with lost everything they owned plus loved ones. It's just scary to think that in the blink of an eye everything can be gone!

Gentle Reminder

Before posting on a topic please browse the other posts to make sure there are no other posts relative to this.  This helps and saves me time in posting only once in response to it :)  THANKS

Children With Learning Disabilities

I found a website completely dedicated to last night's class discussion. The National Center for Learning Disabilities website is all about students with learning disabilities. The information ranges from dealing with bullying, to examples of artwork submitted by students with LD. There are personal testimonies from people who overcame their LD and did not let it define their life. There is parent information on legal rights and matters, as well as tips for teachers to help reach each of their students individually. There are numerous links for articles on effective teaching strategies and intervention research. I have bookmarked this website because I know it will be very helpful to me in my future classroom. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Other 2 test questions?

Does anyone know if Mrs. White has posted the other two questions for the test? I looked for them and I didn't know if I just couldn't find them or if they weren't up yet. If anyone could comment that would be wonderful! Thanks!

Troubles Blogging

Is anyone else getting strange redirecting messages when you post a comment on someone else's blogs? It might just be mine? Just wondering lol

My 'blonde' moment.. :/

I had some parents from my church to agree to let me use their children in my childrens church class to use for my language sample, let me just say I only teach it every other sunday and it only last about 45 min tops.. anyways, I look down about 20 min into class and noticed I didn't push record.. :/ Hopefully I will have better luck week after next!

LANGUAGE PROJECT

THIS IS AN EARLIER POST that I am reposting...

I know there were a few people who were not in class last night and perhaps some who might like a small group setting to hear the "high points" again and ask questions about the Language Project.  Sooooo...I am going to be available to meet with students.  It can be one on one or in small groups.  I will go over the Project and explain the HOW TO DO IT as well as to explain any specific aspects of syntax, semantics or pragmatics.

If you are interested in a one-on-one or small group session you may leave a comment below or email me with your choice of one of the times listed below.  It may not take the entire hour but I'm leaving that much time between sessions:

Monday, March 12th 4:30 - 5:30 - - - Our Classroom --- I am meeting with a student and welcome others.

Hey... so um anything new happenin?

Alright, that title was just  to make me sound like i'm not worried but I really am. Anywho, can someone please give me a run down on due dates or upcoming events? We didn't have to do anything over spring break did we??? Sorry about all this, i'm just freaking out!

Back to School

I hope everyone had a good spring break and is ready to finish up the semester. I know I am, I can't wait for summer!

Scientists Use Brain Waves to Eavesdrop on the Mind

I honestly wasn't sure what to do about my 4th post. I usually try to post something that everyone will find helpful in terms of being more educated about specific disorders or to help them in the classroom, but this time I thought I'd try to find some recent news with the given topic. So, here's a cool article that I found and read about how scientists are using computers to decode language. It's neat and always good to stay up to date in this field!

ASL Living Learning Community Coming to EKU!

My fellow RA, Trevor Jenkins, in McGregor Hall has been busting his behind all year to get the university to approve the ASL LLC floor for EKU. He was successful in his efforts and now EKU will be the first school to have any LLC or residence hall living arrangement of the sort in KY that isn't an actual school for the Deaf (like KSD) (or so I've been told--sorry if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am). This floor will become available in the 2013-2014 school year. It will likely be in McGregor or Clay hall, but that is still undecided upon by the university. Also, this floor will work like the rest of the LLC's (where people who live on that floor have declared that major or one that involves many of the same things, and then signs a contract to complete all the duties of being a resident on said LLC) only I believe this LLC will be available to Deaf Ed, ITP, Lang/Com Disorders, ASL Minors, and Deaf studies. (DON'T hold me to this 100% because EKU is still working out some kinks. All I wanted to let you know is that it got approved and is the first of it's kind in KY Academia!) Congrats to Trevor and all his hard work!
