Language Sample
Does anyone have any ideas of where I could get my language sample? I'm never around any younger children so I don't know who to use. Thanks!

Email Notification of Blog Posts
Many of you have blogged about wanting email notification when something is added to the blog. I THINK I found a way to add a web part or a gadget to the site that will allow you to "subscribe" to receive email notifications. See the top right hand column. Try it out and let me know!
Project
Would anyone like to help one another out with the assessment?? (I think that's how you spell it)
Touching!
This is a little boy who is blind and has autism, but he doesn't let that stop him. He sings "Open the Eyes of My Heart"
at a venue in front of over 1300 people. I just thought this was very inspirational.
It makes you realize don't give up on any single person they are all worth something and all have a talent!!!
I hope you enjoy this!

OK, so my other two posts were found first but then I realized that this whole site helps. It has flash cards, articles, and practice quizzes to help you understand language! :)

Nice Clarification of whta COMMUNICATION is exactly
http://anthro.palomar.edu/language/language_6.htm
Shows how communication is different from language and speech really well if you need more help with that.

Practice Quiz that helps figure out Language Analysis

A little more detailed than our class discussions, but it hits on some of the main points we had. I thought was sort of helpful if you'd like to try it.

Visual Phonics
I am a deaf education major, and I am mentoring in a deaf education classroom. I met a young girl who is truly inspiring. She got cochlear implants when she was four and she did not learn sign nor how to vocalize herself till attending elementary school. Since I've been mentoring her classroom and working with her I've learned a great deal about visual phonics and the signs that have been introduced to show syllables. It is an amazing thing! It's showing me exactly why I chose this field. She said patio for the first time perfectly last Thursday, and her teacher and I did a little dance for her. (:
LANGUAGE PROJECT
I know there were a few people who were not in class last night and perhaps some who might like a small group setting to hear the "high points" again and ask questions about the Language Project. Sooooo...I am going to be available to meet with students. It can be one on one or in small groups. I will go over the Project and explain the HOW TO DO IT as well as to explain any specific aspects of syntax, semantics or pragmatics.
If you are interested in a one-on-one or small group session you may leave a comment below or email me with your choice of one of the times listed below. It may not take the entire hour but I'm leaving that much time between sessions:
Monday, March 12th 4:30 - 5:30 - - - Our Classroom
Monday, March 12th 8:45 - - - Our Classroom
Monday, March 19th 2:00 --- Panera

Spring Break Plans
Just curious where everyone is going for Spring Break. :) I'm going to Orlando with my family. We're going to Disney World and Universal Studios. I'm so excited. I've never been to either. How about everyone else?
Borrow Book
Could anyone let me borrow their for a day or a night? I really would like to try and read a few chapters. It would be greatly appreciated.
Spring break
Is anyone else planning on doing their observations over spring break or am I getting too ahead of the game?
Blogging Help
So I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is possible to get the blog to send me updates on my phone or is there an app or something.
Improving Language in the Classroom
Here is a link to a website I found with a program geared specifically toward improving language and literacy in the classroom. It is called the Fast ForWord Language Series. It would be a great program to incorporate on a day when students are doing centers. It is a computer program that helps students develop listening skills, phonological awareness, and also works on language structures.
There is also a program called Fast ForWord Language to Reading, which helps students improve their reading levels. It features a Scientific Learning Progress tracker that shows a student's progress over time.

Double Entry Notes
I understand the assignment is due before class, but if we choose to do the double entry notes can we turn it in as a hard copy? It says that we can draw and color code and stuff but I can't get that to scan so I don't understand how to turn it in online.

Reading Response Assignments
Few notes...
- Reading response assignments are due tomorrow night by 6:00 - before class.
- I have posted SAMPLES for both types of responses (narrative or double entry note) on Blackboard within the Assignment - near the scoring form which will also guide you as to what your response needs to include.
- We will be going over our LANGUAGE PROJECT tomorrow night. Many of you may want to get started on this during Spring Break so I encourage you to come with your listening ears and notebooks.
- I have been working on grading this week (337 & 260 has work I need to grade). I hope to have most if not all of your tests graded by tomorrow night.
- Blog posts - - - the end of February is THIS WEEK - smile!
