Mr. Jones

Last night as we watched Keith Jones getting along independently, it was incredible. When I think of the questions asked in class about how we view our learning environment, as we teach, we can think of how powerful Mr. Jones testimony was. Mr. Jones who was very capable to be on his own, with adaptations had goals to reach past his physical body. I heard him say he wanted a family, a wife and kids. There are emotional needs that all of us have, I wonder if he will ever meet this goal?

  1. I think it's so easy to forget that we have more in common with people like Keith Jones than we think. We tend to concentrate on the differences rather than similarities. It will be essential for all of us as future educators to remember that our students will typically have the same wants and needs of any other student, whether they have a disability or not. And, of course, the most efficient way to meet their needs is to simply ASK them.

  2. There is more about him in a movie called Including Samuel I highly recommend it. The movie is a great movie for any special education major.

  4. I found myself wondering the same thing, if he will ever meet his goal of finding a wife and having a family. As far as the educating aspect I found it appalling that no one would think to ask what he wanted to study or what he already knew. It really was sad, but also incredibly moving.

  5. If I am not mistaken the conclusion of his video does show him getting married. We have watched his story in another class before.
