Watch the video. Is the teacher addressing students skills relative to pragmatics, syntax or semantics. Defend your answer. I am encouraging you to answer it here in the Comments section.
I believe the teacher is challenging the students to use semantics. She is a second grade teacher so she is taking short, easy to remember words and creating a link between the easy words and the "college" words. She is allowing the students to learn new words and is helping the students expand their vocabulary so they will be able to convey their meaning using more advanced words.
I watched this video for another class and I think it's such an interesting way to speak to children who are developing language wise. This helps improves communication between young adults and adults since each are on the same language levels using words such as 'Garrulous'. I also believe the teacher is using semantics to challenge the students. The students are only second graders but they pick words up so much easier than older students.
I too believe she is using semantics, but I also feel that she may be using pragmatics as well. After the students learn their new vocabulary they are learning how to use their language, and how to make it socially work to be able to communicate more effectively.

DeleteShe's definitely increasing their semantic ability by providing a language rich environment that includes richer vocabulary for everyday activities.
