Speech/Language/Communication

Hey Guys,
I was just wondering what you guys thought of our last class concerning learning how to tell the difference between the three and how helpful this is in the classroom?  I feel as teachers if we do not know how to communicate effectively with a child we are doing them a dishonor.

  1. I'm still struggling with the concepts of voice and speech because I always thought of baby talk as speech, not just voice. However, I do agree that we, as teachers, need to know the difference so that we are able to properly help our students.

  2. I really liked the class discussion and thought that it is helpful to know the differences in a classroom. I agree also, that as teachers we need to know the difference to be able to help them. :)

  3. Ally, I can understand how you see this. As children start to voice, everyone gets so excited because they are starting to "talk", but I think the class helped me to understand the difference a little better, because even though they are starting to voice we still are not able to understand them, therefore they have not started actual "speech" yet. At times it is still a little confusing for me, but I did realize alot the night of class the difference in the three.

  4. At first I found myself to be super confused between the three but like Ms. Hamilton throughout class I began to understand the differences. I do think it is important for us to understand the differences between the three because like Ms. Partin it will help us in helping them.

  6. I was struggling with distinguishing the three but the handout and her explanations helped me abundantly. I had no idea that there was a difference between voice and speech and I often would use the two interchangably. Now I think I have grasped the concept pretty well and I certainly understand them a lot better compared to when we first started the discussion in class.

  8. I agree that the in class discussion has helped me understand the differences. Also, thank you Jennifer for helping further distinguish them. I know that when I first read about them, i kept thinking that there was no difference of consequence. Now I know that there are sufficient differences.

  9. Without communication, the barrier created in our classrooms will be unbreakable. It is essential to find a way to break through and communicate effectively with our students in order to promote learning and relationships in the class.
